E-LEARNING FOR SOCCER PARENTS
Robin Russell is UEFA’s first Football Development Consultant as well as the founder,
CEO and Chairman Of Sports Path ™ -the world’s leading provider of sports e-learning
(www.sportspath.com). Previously Robin had worked for the English Football Association
for over 25 years
From 1997 –2003 he was responsible for The FA’s Coach Education Program. In 1989
he was appointed Assistant Director of Coaching and was responsible for the creation
of the FA’s Football Development Program including the initiation of the Soccer
Star Scheme and Mini-Soccer
In 2003 he created FA Learning Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary company of the Football
Association to co-ordinate and delivers all the FA’s Educational Services. FA Learning
now attracts over 100,000 users per year
As a result of his experience, extensive research and observation Robin has devised
a series of e-learning courses for the parents of boys and girls aged 4-16 years
of age. Featuring two families who live in North America, the courses are designed
to:
- Highlight the key skills required of a Soccer Parent
- Build on the Valuable contribution that parents make to soccer
- Introduce real life scenarios to enhance and test Soccer Parent skills
- Assist the parent to prepare their child for organised sport
- Examine the causes of soccer parent problems and provide tools for the parents to
solve these problems
The courses are an experience for active learners –they are NOT lectures but a series
of problems that need to be solved by the parent
There are Four Soccer Parent Courses:
- An Introduction to Soccer Parenting.
- Who are you and why are you doing this?
- What attitudes, skills and characteristics do you want to portray?
- What attributes do you want your children to display?
- Preparing your child to enjoy playing soccer
- Recognising and responding to their initial interest in the game
- Feeding and maintaining their Passion
- When to progress and what to look for: Choosing Recreation Programs and Day Camps
- Helping them compete enjoyably
- Choosing a Club: When is the right time to join?
- Game Days: What is your role?
- Maintaining the passion: How to retain enjoyment and participation
- Assisting the gifted young player
- Recognizing potential talent
- Supporting excellence and maintaining a balanced childhood
- Dealing with disappointments and set backs
Course 1 will involve the learner in approximately 45 minutes of e-learning. Courses
2, 3 and 4 will involve the learner in approximately 2 hours of e-learning per course
All courses involve video, audio, graphics, animations, photos and text with high
degrees of interactivity, involving learning activities and questions
